Weather ‘perfect’ for annual Home & Garden Idea Fair

first_imgThousands streamed through the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds over the weekend, looking for the means and inspiration for that next home or garden project, at the Clark Public Utilities Home & Garden Idea Fair.Hundreds of vendors lined the exhibition halls, with many more peddling endless varieties of flowers, herbs and vegetables across the midway.Doug Quinn, Clark Public Utilities director of water services, said the weather was largely perfect for the show: It wasn’t so wet and gray that people would choose to stay inside, but it wasn’t so nice that people would choose to spend the whole day out and at play.La Center’s Angela Snyder was on her second load of plants in her red wagon by mid-afternoon. It was her first trip to the show, she said.Snyder’s wagon was stuffed with rosemary, an aloe vera plant she was excited about and some French Quarter coleus. She recently ordered four raised beds and is helping with her widowed mother’s lawn in Longview after never being much of a gardener, she said.“It’s a learning curve for me,” she said. “I’ve never done it before.”She thought it would be something nice to do for Mom, she said, and she was planning on a herbs- and vegetables-heavy crop for herself at home.last_img
