SAN PASQUAL STAKES QUOTES-SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2019

first_imgJOCKEY QUOTESFLAVIEN PRAT, BATTLE OF MIDWAY, WINNER: “I thought to the other race (San Antonio Stakes on Dec.28) when we were out on the lead and we had been praised the whole way, it felt like he (Battle of Midway) was really comfortable doing that, so with the outside road today, I thought it might be better to stay outside.“I think the key was being outside.  The draw was very important.  I don’t think either horse liked to get pressure inside and I was able to stay just outside McKinzie the whole way.  My horse likes to play around a little when he makes the lead, but he still finished good.”MIKE SMITH, MCKINZIE, SECOND:  “I broke in front of him (Battle of Midway), but if I had to do it over again, I would’ve taken my horse back.”TRAINER QUOTESJERRY HOLLENDORFER, BATTLE OF MIDWAY, WINNER: “Very nice and good ride by (Flavian) Prat, I thought we had our horse ready and Bob’s (Baffert’s) horse (Mckinzie) was very game too, so it was a good race.“We were kind of undecided what the speed was going to be I thought Bob would send his horse harder, but he didn’t do that so that kept us wide into the first turn, which was a good strategy for them.“I thought we could get him (McKinzie) and I thought Prat rode a great race.  The other horse fought back, but we got lucky in the last couple jumps.  We’ll enjoy this and see what’s up (next).”NOTES: The winning owners are Don Alberto Stable and WinStar Farm LLC.Battle of Midway and jockey Flavien Prat, outside, outleg McKinzie (Mike Smith), inside, to win the Grade II, $200,000 San Pasqual Stakes, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Santa Anita Park, Arcadia CA. © BENOIT PHOTOlast_img read more

MALIN HEAD COAST GUARD HELPS SAVE CREW – IN THE MED!

first_imgMALIN Head Coast Guard station officers have become world famous for helping out ships in distress in far-flung oceans.Last year staff picked up one alert…in the South China Sea!And yesterday their incredible skills helped with the rescue of a boat and her crew in the Mediterranean Sea. The may-day alert was picked up using old-fashioned radio transmissions“Ships don’t use medium and high frequency transmissions much these days and the Irish Coast Guard is one of the last to listen out on the frequencies as satellite communications have taken over,” said a Coast Guard spokesman.“However its still maintained for the fishing fleets off our coast and as long range back up communications for lifeboats and Search and Rescue helicopters.“Last night Malin received an alert off Gibraltar and were able to warn the Spanish authorities in Madrid.” It’s understood a fishing boat and crew were later taken to safety after getting into difficulty. MALIN HEAD COAST GUARD HELPS SAVE CREW – IN THE MED! was last modified: August 30th, 2013 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more
