Ellicott Equipment for Malawi

first_imgThe U.S. Embassy in Malawi said in its latest announcement that Ellicott Dredges LLC, of Baltimore, MD, recently won a $7 million contract to supply dredging equipment to the Kapichira Hydropower Plant. The main goal of this project, conducted by the Millennium Challenge Account of Malawi (MCA-M), is to improve its power generation by reducing the sediment in the reservoir and therefore, increasing the amount of reservoir water volume and hydropower efficiencies.MCC is working with the Government of Malawi to strengthen a foundation on which the nation’s power system can grow, including infrastructure and enabling policies that encourage accountability and private sector involvement, the U.S. Embassy in Malawi said in its release. The five-year compact, which will conclude in September, consists of three projects designed to take a complementary approach to improving the sector.Infrastructure investments and energy sector reform are complemented by a $31.5 million effort to support hydro-power generation through improved environmental practices in the Shire River watershed.[mappress mapid=”24883″]last_img read more

Clarendon target five straight wins in ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup

first_imgWESTERN BUREAU:Former winners Clarendon College will this afternoon seek to maintain their stranglehold on Zone H of the 2016 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)-FLOW daCosta Cup when they tackle Knox College. The Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis-coached Clarendon College is one of two schools with a 100 per cent win record, the other being Lennon High, who will travel to meet Thompson Town High in another matchup, where a win for them and a loss for Clarendon would see them sweeping into the lead.Clarendon have amassed 12 points from four matches to lead Lennon, on 10 points, while Thompson Town (nine), Edwin Allen (six) and Knox (four) are next in that order. Claude McKay are last in the zone, having lost all their five matches. The third match in that zone pits Claude McKay against Edwin Allen High.”We feel that we are doing well at the moment,” said Davis. “This team is playing as we expected, and like every other opponent, we will not take this Knox team lightly.”We have not won anything yet and we are aware that we have a long way to go. We will just continue playing good football and work hard for the results we need,” added Davis. In the buildup to this game, Clarendon College have been on a goal spree, hitting the target 23 times in their four games, while conceding only once.TROUBLING GOAL DIFFERENCEKnox, on the other hand, have conceded 10 goals. They have scored just five and therein is their worry.Against a strong-running, strong-tackling team such as Clarendon, they will need to be a lot more disciplined in front of the goal if they intend to get at least a point from this match, but it’s looking unlikely given their rarity of goals.Meanwhile, over in Zone D, Coach Jeffery Reece has had his team – the surprisingly good Little London High – playing at an optimum, and they will start favourites against Manning’s.Little London occupy the highest place in the standings since the school first entered the competition. They have nine points, six adrift zone leaders Godfrey Stewart (15).Today’s matchesClarendon College vs KnoxThompson Town vs LennonClaude McKay vs Edwin AllenTacky vs St Mary HighSpot Valley vs HollandLittle London vs Manning’sAlston vs HolmwoodChristiana vs SpaldingBellefield vs May Day HighSt Mary Tech vs Horace ClarkeBrimmer Vale vs IonaPorus vs Foga Roadlast_img read more

KCCA FC out to end Champions League campaign on a high

first_img Tags: Al Ahlychampions leagueKCCA FCMike Mutebitop KCCA players celebrating in their 1-0 win over Township Rollers earlier this month (file photo)CAF Champions League Al Ahly vs KCCA FCBorg El Arab Stadium, AlexandriaTuesday, 28-09-2018 @10:00pmReferee: Redouane Jiyed (Morocco)KCCA FC will be hoping they can end their 2018 Champions League campaign on a high when they take on Group A leaders Al Ahly at the Borg El Arab stadium in Alexandria on Tuesday evening.Mike Mutebi’s charges go into the game with no chance of progression from the group following match day five results which saw them and their Tuesday opponents win their respective fixtures.Al Ahly defeated Tunisian side Esperance 1-0, a result that meant KCCA could not occupy the first two positions in the group even if they won their last two games as they sat seven points behind the top two (Al Ahly and Esperance).Their corresponding 1-0 victory over Township Rollers in Kampala means that the Kasasiro Boys have a chance to bow out with pride, seating only a point behind the record African champions that’s if they can somehow cub out three points tonight.”Being knocked out at this moment doesn’t mean, we shall not play with commitment, said KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi ahead of the game.“We maintain the same focus and commitment like in the rest of the games and we shall try to throw the kitchen sinks at them.”We are a young emerging force and I’m sure, everyone in the group had his eyebrows raised about how we play.“I believe we have learnt a lot and that will help us to become better.KCC A will head into the game with a near to full strength squad. Only first choice goalkeeper Charles Lukwago who is still suspended misses out.Match Stats:This is the second ever meeting between the two sides in the competition. The first saw KCCA defeat the Egyptian giants 2-0 in Kampala thanks to late strikes by Saddam Juma and Captain Timothy Awanyi.Al Ahly go into the game having won six of their last 10 Champions League games (D2 L2).The Red Devils have been formidable at home in the recent past. They have not tested defeat in any of their last 12 home Champions League games (W6 D6).The last time they walked out of a game in Alexandria without a point was in a 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast’s Asec Memosa in June 2016.The last time they host an East African club, they defeated Young Africans 2-1 back in April 2016.For KCCA FC, the y have won only four of their last 12 champions league games (D2 L6).Away from home, the Kasasiro Boys have won only one of their last 12 games (D2 L9). The victory dates back to Feburary 2014 when Tony Odur and Herman Wasswa were on target in the 2-0 win at Sudanese side Al Merreikh.Their last trip to North Africa saw them lead 2-0 inside 22 minutes before lossing 3-2 to Esperance last month.Comments last_img read more

Google Introduces Google TV

first_imgRelated Posts Tags:#Google#web A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Google showcased Google TV this morning at its Google I/O developer conference, entering what’s been a growing arena since this year’s Consumer Electronics Show last January. The most obvious feature brought to television by the company that wants to organize all the world’s information is search, but that’s far from where Google’s innovation to bringing the Web to the TV ends – it’s just the beginning.Google TV will be offered as an Internet and wifi enabled box that can connect to a television using an HDMI connection. It will have a keyboard and a “pointing device”, though no more specific information on the hardware was offered.Much of this morning’s demo consisted of showing off the search feature and how users will be able to browse the Web using their television. Searching on Google TV allows users to find content both on the Web and on the TV. From there, they can view web content, view TV content or even set their DVR to record TV shows that air at a later time. The demo got interesting when the presenters started showing off some of the integration with smartphones and the Android marketplace. Not only can Google TV be controlled using a smartphone and speech recognition, but the Google TV hardware will be able to run any Android app in the market place that doesn’t require phone-specific hardware to operate. So Pandora, Twitter, Facebook – anything that’s an app for Android – will be available in a simplified form for the television.Google also previewed a number of integrations and partnerships, such as with the NBA or Netflix. These integrations optimized Web content for the television experience by connecting online schedules with DVR programming in the case of NBA.com or by allowing users to peruse suggested content according to previous Netflix viewings. As Google notes in its blog about Google TV, much of what it showed today is just the tip of the iceberg, as the company is opening up Google TV to developers with an upcoming SDK and API release. We think this is likely where Google TV will be most exciting – the creations of developers using Google developer tools. Instead of having a more closed system, Google’s use of developer tools and integration of the Android market place is going to make Google TV the real rebirth of Web TV. Google is working together with Sony and Logitech to bring Google TV to televisions, Blu-ray players and companion boxes, and you should expect to see it in Best Buy stores by next fall. mike melansoncenter_img 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hostinglast_img read more

Weinstein Co overwhelmed by backlash may be up for sale

first_imgNEW YORK, N.Y. – The Weinstein Co., besieged by sexual harassment allegations against its namesake and co-founder, may be putting itself up for sale. The company said Monday that it will receive an immediate cash infusion from Colony Capital and is in negotiations for the potential sale of all or a significant portion of the company responsible for producing films such as “Django Unchained,” ”The Hateful Eight” and “Lion.”Colony Capital, the private-equity arm of Colony NorthStar, was founded by Thomas Barrack, a close adviser to President Donald Trump. Barrack chaired Trump’s presidential inaugural committee.Harvey Weinstein was fired last week by the film production company he helped create. The allegations of sexual harassment and assault against Weinstein span decades and include many of the film industry’s leading actresses. The backlash has been severe as more women go public with their interactions with Weinstein.Law enforcement in the U.S. and Europe are taking a new look at past allegations. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revoked his membership, as has the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.“This has got to be a fire sale,” said Richard Levick, chairman and CEO of crisis-management firm Levick International. He added that while he doesn’t think anyone would be interested in buying the Weinstein name, they might be interested in “buying the pieces.”Amazon Studios, the growing film arm of Amazon, cut ties with the Weinstein company last week. Robert De Niro, Julianne Moore and director David O. Russell scrapped an untitled Amazon Studios series that was being produced by The Weinstein Co.Showtime has threatened to pull out of an Oliver Stone drama in development, “Guantanamo,” because Weinstein Co. is a producer.“The stink from this is so substantial that it makes almost anyone to try to defend them to become an untouchable,” Levick said.Word of a potential sale comes just three days after Bob Weinstein, who helped found the company with his brother, Harvey, said that a sale was not an option.“We are pleased to invest in The Weinstein Company and to help it move forward,” Colony said Monday. “We will help return the company to its rightful iconic position in the independent film and television industry.”Now, Colony will have to weigh a sale price against “brand liability,” Levick said. This includes unknown things such as how many more women may come forward. The list of women alleging harassment and assault by Harvey Weinstein continues to grow. More than 30 women, including actresses Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Gwyneth Paltrow — have spoken out.___Business writers Stanley J. Choe and Barbara Ortutay contributed to this report.last_img read more
