‘Harry Kane has to prove he’s not a one-season wonder’, insists ex-Spurs star

first_imgFormer Tottenham midfielder Alan Mullery has called for Harry Kane to prove he isn’t a ‘one-season wonder’ following his brilliant breakthrough last season.Kane was named the PFA Young Player of the Year after netting 31 goals for Spurs last term, form which saw him called up to the England squad and score on his Three Lions debut. But the 22-year-old has struggled so far this year, having failed to find the net in Tottenham’s opening four games of the new Premier league campaign. He finally opened the account for the season in England’s 6-0 win over against San Marino on Saturday, beating the part-time goalkeeper with a beautifully judged lob after replacinng Wayne Rooney in the second-half.And former Spurs star Mullery believes scoring his second international goal will give Kane the confidence to overcome the dreaded ‘second season syndrome’ when he returns to White Hart Lane.Speaking on Extra Time, he said: “I’m glad for him, because since the season has started he’s missed a few chances, and that really takes you back and you start to lose confidence.“But the boy is a goalscorer, he chipped the goalkeeper beautifully for his goal against San Marino, and that will give him a lot more confidence so when he goes back to Spurs he can start scoring again.“He’s only 21 and he’s still learning his trade. He did his apprenticeship  last season, where he got into the side and regularly scored goals, and now he’s got to prove to everyone that he’s not a one season wonder.“He’s a good player, there’s no doubt about it. He’s got the right attitude, he’s good to talk to and he’s very confident about his own ability.“He’ll score goals again this season.”last_img read more
