first_imgClub statement— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) November 20, 2019Richard Forrester20 Nov 2019, 6:25 amMORNING, expect another whirlwind day if you’re a Spurs fan. Some Tottenham players only found out about Pochettino’s sacking on social media with everybody else. Wales’ Ben Davies said after the win over Hungary: “I didn’t know until after the game. “I was very shocked. But I’d like to put on record, it’s been amazing to work with him for the last five years and I’m sure he will go onto bigger and better things.” Bigger and better? Interesting…Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 11:09 pmTHAT’S all from us tonight.Stay tuned tomorrow on the blogs, where you can be sure of more developments.Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 11:07 pmEXCLUSIVE by Duncan Wright: JOSE MOURINHO will tomorrow continue talks to become the new manager of Tottenham.Spurs approached the former Manchester United manager early this evening evening to see if he was willing to succeed Mauricio Pochettino in charge. The London club sacked Pochettino just five months after he led them in the Champions League final with the club 14th in the Premier League. And they immediately turned to Mourinho, 56, who spent the remainder of the night in talks with Spurs.SunSport understands both sides are confident they can reach a deal which would see him take charge before Saturday’s crunch clash with West Ham.Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 11:01 pmHARRY REDKNAPP believed Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder should be an option, but believes he and Eddie Howe will be overlooked.“He told BBC radio 5 Live: “I like Poch and got on great with him but they’re down the league with an incredible squad of players.“Have a look at the forwards they’ve got to choose from. They are absolutely underachieving.“Chris Wilder at Sheffield United. What the boy’s done… that’s amazing. But he won’t get a look in. Wilder could win league titles with the right team.“But English managers will be overlooked – they won’t look at Eddie Howe.”Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 10:43 pmFORMER Spurs ace Chris Waddle has given his view on the Pochettino sacking.Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “Unfortunately Tottenham cannot stand still, they cannot be team in 10th to 14th place in the Premier League. “They were in the Champions League final last season, top four last four years running and he has been a big part of it.“They have looked at it and thought, where are Tottenham going at the moment? 10th is not going to pay the bills or attract the big players.“Who will come in next? Jose Mourinho is nailed on, is he a Tottenham type manager? Will he sort it out? Will he be a fans’ favourite with his style? I would say not, unless he changes his philosophy.“Carlo Ancelotti would be a better fit, he has won as a player and a manager.“Football moves very quickly, eventually it happens. He has been brilliant for the club but the way they have developed, they cannot stand still.”Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 10:33 pmIT took Mauricio Pochettino five years to reach the peak and just six months to come crashing down.Tottenham have sacked arguably their best ever manager, even if their 2-0 Champions League final loss to Liverpool in May was a gloomy glimpse of the slump to follow. This season’s mediocrity on the pitch and murmurings off it snowballed this month, leading to Tuesday night’s shock sacking at the end of the international break.Pochettino himself had heightened the speculation and discontent with an uneasy mix of weary words, frustration and optimism after the last few matches.Relegation form of 25 points in the last 24 games, combined with a Carabao Cup humbling by League Two Colchester and a 7-2 home loss to Bayern Munich, are stark stats. And it is also thought the pressure on Poch became stronger after Jose Mourinho’s team reportedly suggested the ex-Chelsea and Manchester United chief would welcome the Spurs job.But Pochettino’s main ‘mare is Tottenham’s shocking Premier League start, which further weakened his once rock-solid relationship with chairman Daniel Levy after what so far looks like a failed summer spree on Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon. Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 10:22 pmDELE ALLI has posted an emotional goodbye message to Pochettino on social media.Uploading a picture of the duo together, he tweeted: “I can’t thank this man enough. “He’s taught me so much and I’m so grateful for everything he’s done for me. “Good luck and hope to see you again my friend.” Gaffer. I’ll be forever thankful to you for helping me achieve my dreams. We’ve had some amazing moments in the last 5 and a half years that I will never forget. You were my manager but my friend as well and I thank you for that relationship. Good luck with your next chapter! 💙 pic.twitter.com/u64RXV7wd4— Harry Kane (@HKane) November 20, 2019Adam Storer20 Nov 2019, 8:05 amA REMINDER just how Mourinho could set up Tottenham with a few new additions.Unsurprisingly, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son would keep their places, while recent acquisitions Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso would start.Yet, among the big names incoming could be Juventus’ Paulo Dybala and Portugal ace Bruno Fernandes.Adam Storer20 Nov 2019, 8:03 amFOR all those Tottenham fans wondering, Jose Mourinho has won 25 trophies in the last 17 years across five different clubs. His record in England is rather impressive too, with three Premier League titles among the 11 honours.Yet, his win percentage in his last job at Manchester United is just three percent high than in Pochettino’s entire Spurs reign.Adam Storer20 Nov 2019, 7:40 amTOTTENHAM fans have not taken kindly to the news of their incoming boss.Despite his trophies, Jose Mourinho continues to divide opinion. And with the sacking of a club favourite in Mauricio Pochettino, it could take some time for the Portuguese boss to win over his new supporters. JOSE MOURINHO has been named as the new Tottenham manager, following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino. The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ has not managed since being sacked by Manchester United in December 2018.Yet, the appointment is expected to divide opinion among Spurs after the highly popular Pochettino was sacked on Thursday after five years at the club. The Argentine had guided the North Londoners to the Champions League final in May, but that has proved a difficult act to follow this season.Follow live updates from this developing story below…Jake Lambourne20 Dec 2019, 12:33 amWilliam Pugh20 Nov 2019, 8:55 amWilliam Pugh20 Nov 2019, 8:39 am4/ Mauricio, my friend, have a very good and deserved rest and come back to football (Football needs people like you) revitalised, refresh. Howe had been an outsider at 12/1 and Mourinho had been heavy favourite at 1/4.But by 9.30pm, Mourinho was back to 5/6 and Howe was suddenly second-favourite – ahead of the likes of Max Allegri and Rafa Benitez – at 11/4 with some bookies. And fans were not impressed that the Cherries manager, who has no European experience and has never won a major trophy, was suddenly being considered for the job.One fan wrote: “If we have just sacked Poch for Eddie Howe I’m done with the club.”Husty Hotspur added: “Major step backwards and unforgivable. Would cost to get him on top of compo to Poch. This is Levy, it will be a freebie. That freebie better be Jose.”AbdulTHFC added: “Look, as long as it’s not Eddie Howe, I’m happy.”CJ said: “It should be Mourinho but it’ll be Eddie Howe.Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 10:04 pmMAURICIO POCHETTINO picking up his £12.5million cheque like… Look now you have the job to completely finish spurs pic.twitter.com/RJS6bw3BC9— P™ (@SemperFiArsenal) November 20, 2019Adam Storer20 Nov 2019, 7:14 amJOSE MOURINHO has signed a deal until the end of 2022/23 season. He said following his appointment: “I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters.“The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me.“Working with these players is what has attracted me.”Spurs chairman Daniel Levy added: “In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. Joke… levy out….— Mark Foster (@MarkFosterSwim) November 20, 2019 Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 9:49 pmMANCHESTER UNITED fans are desperate for the club to land Mauricio Pochettino after he was SACKED by Tottenham. The Argentinian, 47, was axed by Daniel Levy just six months after leading the club to the Champions League final. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enduring an up and down season at Old Trafford, United fans are desperate for Ed Woodward to move for the now available boss.Fans also reckon they could steal a move for England skipper Harry Kane, who has flourished under the manager in the last five-and-a-half years.Mark Goldbridge said: “Poch sacked! If he’s free then he’s got to be a serious contender for United if Ole slips up again?”United Xtra wrote: “Poch took Spurs to a Champions League final on a shoestring budget. Whoever gets him next will be very lucky. Top manager!”Aidan said: “If United don’t sack Ole and get Poch rn, we will regret it for the next 10 years.”While Eli said he was “praying” for the club to lose their next match.“I’m praying seriously that we lose our game this weekend against Sheffield United,” he wrote, “So that Ole can be sacked immediately, then we can go in for Poch.”Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 9:41 pmTHE Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust have announced their shock at Pochettino’s dismissal.A statement said: “We’re shocked and saddened to hear our Club has sacked Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff. “During his time at Spurs, Poch gave us many of our best moments as supporters, made Tottenham Hotspur a force to be reckoned with again, and forged a strong link with the fans. We will never forget the joy he brought us.“Of course, results in the league have been disappointing for some time. But many fans thought Poch had earned the right to turn it around in the first sustained period of poor form we’ve had during his time at the Club. We now have to look forward and take stock. But there are questions that must be asked of the Board of THFC.  “The Club’s statement makes it clear the Board has decided to sack the manager and coaching staff. It is their decision. We question why this decision was taken at the end, rather than the beginning, of the international break. We question whether the timing of the decision leaves the Club with much choice in who takes over.  “To take the decision it has, the Board must have a clear plan for what and who comes next. It needs to tell this Club’s supporters what that plan is. And the Board also needs to consider its own role in this. Is the manager solely accountable? “How much has the Board’s line on wages and transfers contributed to player unrest and disaffection? How much did it contribute to the situation we now find ourselves in? And will it change to help support a new manager?   “We’d like to put on record our thanks to Mauricio Pochettino, Jesus Perez and Toni Jiminez for the fantastic football and magical moments they have brought us over the last five years.”Jake Lambourne20 Nov 2019, 9:30 pmEXCLUSIVE by Duncan Wright: JOSE MOURINHO is open to meeting Tottenham about becoming their new manager.Former Manchester United boss Mourinho is one of the leading candidates to succeed Mauricio Pochettino who was sacked tonight just five months after leading the club to the Champions League final.SunSport understands at this stage no formal contact has yet been made between Spurs and Mourinho. But the 56-year-old would be willing to sit down with chairman Daniel Levy and discover if it is the next challenge he has been waiting for.Mourinho has been out of work since leaving Manchester United 11 months ago – and has snubbed a series of offers waiting for the right opportunity he feels will keep him competing at the top of the game. The Tottenham job is thought to be one such position that would seriously excite him, though Spurs may need to provide assurances Pochettino’s departure would not lead to a break up of the squad in place. It was revealed last month that Mourinho is keen to set history by becoming the first manager to lead three different clubs to the league title or major European trophies. Both Spurs and Arsenal have the pedigree and potential to give him that opportunity, and it helps that he would not have to move away from London which has become his home over the past five years.Load more entries… Love Poch.
