Who says creativity is no child’s play? The solo exhibition, Pots Platter and Me, by nine-year-old Avani Singhania displays her creativity in ceramic art and pottery making. For someone as young what could be her inspiration?’When I see different creations in art books, I feel an urge to create them in my own way. This exhibition is the result of one year’s effort, in doing just that,’ said Avani.Avani has been learning pottery and ceramics arts under the guidance of Ela Mukherjee, a ceramic artiste. Coming from a family of art lovers and collectors, her interests stem from her own surroundings. She has also participated in pottery classes and camps at her school and recently held an exhibition of her work at the India Habitat Centre. An array of colourful tea pots, cups and saucers, decorative items shaped like hearts, ovals, pen-stands in ceramics greeted guests. The collection also included fish bowls, diyas, coffee mugs in bright colours to go hand in hand with the festive season.
Kolkata: Before savouring cakes and pastries during the Christmas holidays, Kolkatans have another chance to pamper their taste buds with a series of desserts. Thanks to the three-day “Great Indian Dessert Festival” that kicks off Friday beside the Misti Hub in New Town.The festival is a stride on the part of West Bengal Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) to enhance the ‘sweetness’ of the area around Misti Hub in New Town that Also Read – Rain batters Kolkata, cripples normal lifecame up in June. The festival is being organised by a private company and HIDCO is acting as the venue partner with the site of motorcycle stand behind Misti Hub being decked up for the same. There will be 16 stalls serving dessert varieties — like Fruit Custard, Caramel Custard and etc. The organisers have promised to have a wide variety of custards and ice-creams that are special and popular across the country at the Festival. People will visit Eco Park, Misti Hub near Gate Number 3 of the park and at the same time relish the popular desserts of the country,” a senior HIDCO official said. The campaign for the festival was made on social media with likes and comments of appreciation flooding the posts related to the event. So, the organisers are hopeful of a good turnaround. It may be mentioned that HIDCO has already made elaborate plans to spread the footprint of Misti Hub. Plans are on to design a special prestige carry bag with the logo of Misti Hub for common branding. This would be of cloth or jute and consists of three sizes — small, medium and large. There are also plans to introduce discount coupons for people to visit Eco Park on some selective days for those who would buy sweets from Misti Hub. A review of the performance till October done by Hidco has garnered excellent response from the people visiting Misti Hub. All the shops at the Hub have done brisk business.
Darjeeling: RP Waiba, vicepresident, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Bimal) was produced at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Darjeeling on Monday.Waiba was wanted in a Darjeeling Sadar Police station case of June 8, 2017 in which the police and GJM supporters had clashed in Darjeeling. Waiba was arrested on Sunday while he was on his way to Darjeeling from Siliguri. “There was a pending arrest warrant in his name issued by the court. Earlier, there had been a proclamation order of his property also. A separate proceeding under Section 144 A IPC has also been initiated against him. His bail prayer was rejected and he has been sent to judicial custody,” said Pankaj Prashad, Assistant Public Prosecutor, Darjeeling. In the same case e Rajni Gurung of Darjeeling, who had earlier been arrested and sentenced on three days of police remand was produced on Monday. She was also sent to judicial custody. Ajoy Edward, the Steering Committee member of GNLF was detained by the police in Darjeeling but released in the evening. “He has been picked up for interrogation,” stated a police officer.
