Officials identify boy killed by father’s vehicle

first_imgSANTA FE SPRINGS – Coroner’s officials Tuesday released the identity of a 3-year-old boy who was killed when his father’s sport utility vehicle accidentally ran over the toddler in what investigators were calling a tragic accident. Officials said Maximino Torres Jr. of Santa Fe Springs was killed shortly after 5 p.m. Monday in the driveway of the family’s home in the 11600 block of Laurel Avenue. The father’s 2003 Cadillac Escalade had first backed up in the driveway, then pulled forward, hitting the boy, who had run in front of the vehicle, said California Highway Patrol Officer Raquel Stage. The boy suffered major head trauma and died at the scene. The father pulled the boy out from under the SUV and was holding his body in his arms when paramedics arrived. Stage said the father had not been arrested or cited as of Tuesday, but an investigation was ongoing. A preliminary investigation, however, appeared to show that the father was not at fault, she added. “The initial investigation suggests it’s just a tragic accident, a matter of the baby running out and the dad not seeing him,” said Stage. “It’s just an unfortunate accident.” [email protected] (626) 962-8811, Ext. 2718 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
