Eisenhower (CVN 69) (Ike) of a small fishing vessel in distress.Once Nitze’s crew identified the distressed vessel, the ship took action to render assistance. After confirming the distressed vessel’s mariners were safe, they discovered the vessel had a dead battery. Nitze provided the Iranian crew with a new battery and a case of water, the U.S. Navy said.“Our sailors are trained to respond quickly to those in distress at sea,” said Cmdr. Paul Kaylor, commanding officer of Nitze. “We are proud to have assisted in this situation.”While not related it is interesting to note that ten U.S. Navy sailors were detained at gunpoint by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in late January this year. U.S. sailors strayed into Iranian territorial waters after experiencing problems with both the communication equipment and mechanical issues with the boats they were using. Fleet Foxes “Cover” Phish The Day After Phish Covered Them At MSG [Watch]

first_imgOn Wednesday night–“Traditional Powdered Donut” night at Phish‘s “Baker’s Dozen” residency–the Vermont jam kings opened their show with a theme-appropriate a cappella rendition of Fleet Foxes‘ “White Winter Hymnal.” The out-of-left-field indie cover debut made a big splash with Phish fans, some of whom already had tickets to catch the band’s first tour in years at the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn next week. You can watch pro-shot video of Phish’s cover of Fleet Foxes’ “White Winter Hymnal” below, via Phish’s YouTube page:Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold acknowledged the tribute in a series of Instagram comments, in which he proclaimed that the crossover was “so wild.” On Thursday night in Portland, ME, Fleet Foxes returned the favor, mustering a brief cover of Phish’s “Bouncin’ Around The Room.” From there, Pecknold joked from stage that, “oh on, um, we’re trying to learn–ok, this is a Phish song…what we’re about to play, this is a Phish song” before launching into “White Winter Hymnal”–which we know, of course, is actually one of his own originals.
